The new RED includes content mandated for teaching at EYFS. It structures this around the 6 branches of the curriculum design - 5 of which follow the Liturgical year.EFYS goals, nominated under each EYFS area summarise what pupils should be able to do by the end of EYFS.

Some features to note as you read the planning documents:
The RED mandates content for EYFS. The planning documents includes this content in the left hand column of the table, formatted in RED to show it is taken from the new Directory,. Where I have suggested additional, extension material, useful for Reception, this content is in black.
Under each EYFS area are suggested activities.
Those formatted in RED correspond directly to the EYFS content. They are intended to inform your explicit teaching of RE. Other activities, in black, consolidate or explore further the key RED content, and are suggested for continuous provision.
As you plan, remember the RED activities teach the RED content and so have priority.
Linked to the RED content is significant information for you as teachers.
Those of you who know my work will know my commitment to teacher education. Please read the KIT - it is not intended to be explicitly taught to your pupils but it should develop and enhance your own understanding of the content.
The RED works with 3 'ways of knowing:' Look for wondering questions in Pink and Blue. Each planning document explain the rationale and use of these questions.
The RED uses lenses, Hear, Believe, Celebrate and Live, to categorise content. These lenses are identified at each focus question. Statements from the Belief lens (which will be verbalised in your lessons) are highlighted on the 'In a Nutshell' page in the Blue Box. They are also provided as cards for placement into a Belief Box. Use these statement cards in prayer and collective worship; to connect to Bible passages, to connect ideas and to reinforce vocabulary. The image should hint at the belief and allow children to recall what they learned. Add to your beliefs each half term to keep what Catholics believe ‘fresh’ and alive in the children’s minds.
Pleas let me know if you would like to suggest changes or additions, or if your school would like to subscribe to other resources on KIP and Friends. !
