'In God's Name'
How the resources work!

The RED mandates outcomes expected for teaching by the end of each Phase. These are found in section 2.3 (pg 40) of the Directory. 'The expected outcomes are a synthesis of the content outlined in the knowledge lenses and the skills described in the ways of knowing. Each age-phase will have a prescribed set of expected outcomes that will indicate what pupils are expected to know, remember and be able to do, using the language of the ways of knowing and applying it to the discrete knowledge within each lens.'

The Model Curriculum models one way that these outcomes could be arranged into teaching blocks or units. The Model Curriculum is a model - it is neither prescribed nor compulsory.

'In God's Name' includes all the mandated outcomes but arranged differently from the Model Curriculum. It also includes other outcomes which lead to, or from, those in the RED. 'In God''s Name' thus provides greater flow between Phases, a more rigorous expectation of learners and their learning, and the ability to track progress more easily.

'In God's Name' resources are a mixture of fixed and cyclical units.
Branches 1, 5 and 6 are fixed. Resources are divided into year groups to be taught every year.
Branches 2, 3 and 4 are cyclical, to mimic the liturgical cycle of the year and provide the best way to learn about the life of Christ through one authors words.

In Year A, Branches 2, 3 and 4 teach the Gospel of Matthew.
In Year B, Branches 2, 3 and 4 teach the Gospel of Mark
In Year C, Branches 2,3 and 4 teach the Gospel of Luke.

Thus, as the Church proclaims the Gospel of the Year, so children in schools using 'In God's Name', are taught about and through it. This marks 'In God's Name' as unique in RE, and completely faithful to the theological intention of the RED.
